Call Acceleration of Civil-Military Innovations 2024

Purpose and goal

The goal is to use experiences from the civilian sector of additive manufacturing to develop technical solutions for improved ballistic protection - primarily for vehicles. The purpose behind the project is to take advantage of and transfer the known advantages of AM and Vibenite to the defense industry, such as the use of better materials, the design possibilities with additive manufacturing and new improved processes for maintenance and repairs.

Expected effects and result

We expect to develop concepts for improved ballistic protection using additive manufacturing and better material selection. The concepts should, among other things, result in increased flexibility and efficiency and be able to solve challenges linked to ballistic protection in a defense context.

Planned approach and implementation

Work package 1: Requirements specification. A basic investigation into the requirements placed on protective plates is carried out. Work package 2: Prototype manufacturing according to requirement specification. Different options are investigated and tested. Work package 3: Tests and verification are carried out. The ballistic properties are evaluated and any updates are made. Work package 4: Participation in the LEAD´s Dual Use Accelerator - LEAD´s accelerator program for dual use innovations.
