Venture Cluster of Excellence for Cutting-Edge Technologies - calls for proposals
Call Visions for world-leading research and innovation in strategic technology areas

Purpose and goal

ARCUS – Accelerating Resilient and Circular Steel & Metal Solutions – will establish Sweden as a global leader in sustainable materials and production technology. By uniting universities, research institutes and industrial companies in a common innovation system, groundbreaking research can be translated into climate-neutral products more quickly, while resources are used, reused and circulated with the highest quality and minimum environmental impact.

Expected effects and result

The core of ARCUS is a platform model, where research is linked to industry needs, test beds and pilot lines. In this way, basic research, applied research and industrial implementation can be run in parallel, which shortens innovation cycles and strengthens the supply of skills through research schools and industrial participation. Groundbreaking research should not only be conducted in laboratories but also along the entire TRL scale.

Planned approach and implementation

ARCUS is built on three strategic advantages – speed (accelerate research to industry), relevance (integrate industry needs and business models) and reach (talent supply and international anchoring) – and thereby creates a cluster with global competitiveness. The vision is in line with the EU´s strategies and missions. ARCUS strengthens Sweden´s industrial sovereignty and innovation capacity and contributes to shaping international standards and solutions for a sustainable industrial future.
