Important results from the project

The project Roadmap for attractive, safe and inclusive mining aimed to develop a roadmap for the future of mining work together with participants from LKAB, Boliden and BDX by developing knowledge about how mining work develops and is affected by changes such as digitalisation, new skills, increased safety and more gender equality. The roadmap has now been developed and we have chosen to call it “Together for attractive mining work”.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results will support the sustainable development of the Swedish mining sector. Knowledge and methods that put people at the center of the development of both technology and organizations are important pieces of the puzzle to meet the challenges arising from the green and digital transformation of the Swedish mining sector and sustainable development in local communities. This includes using gender and diversity theories as tools to design workplaces, organisations and societies.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out during 2022–2025 by a research group at Human Work Science at Luleå University of Technology together with Boliden, LKAB and BDX. It was an applied research project where we, together with the companies, used previous research (gender, work, safety, organization, competence, socio-technology, etc. in mining), and also used new data from the project . We have conducted literature reviews, case studies, interviews, workshops, surveys, observations and study visits.
