Purpose and goal
The purpose of this study was to investigate the business perspectives on open data. The study examines how companies are using open data. The study has captured the challenges they face and their needs in order to create value based on open data. Thereby, it is possible to get a better understanding of how the actors interact, and how the dynamics of the field work.
Expected results and effects
The study includes recommendations to improve the interaction between the actors in the field. Companies that use open data are a heterogeneous group of data users with different needs. The authorities need to work in a user-oriented way, where plans, resources and management of open data are adapted to the needs of external developers. Cooperation between companies and authorities can be improved by recommending companies to clarify what kind of data they are interested in and how it is supposed to be used.
Planned approach and implementation
The study was conducted through qualitative case studies based on interviews with company representatives. The collected material was analyzed in order to understand the challenges the companies face and the needs they have in order to create value based on open data.
