Sweden and Germany launch joint effort on anti-drone technology
Vinnova and the German innovation agency SPRIND are launching a European challenge to develop solutions against drone threats. The initiative aims to strengthen Europe's security and competitiveness through radical innovation and cross-border cooperation.
Drone technology is developing rapidly and creating new risks for societal security. For example, unmanned vehicles can be used to disrupt critical infrastructure, such as energy supply and communication networks. To address new risks, Vinnova and SPRIND are launching a joint challenge that will drive forward radical solutions to detect and neutralize drone threats.
– We signed our memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SPRIND before the summer and now we are going from idea to reality. We are building on Swedens strong innovation ecosystem as a foundation and expanding it into Europe to meet real challenges together, says Anna Bergstrand, responsible for the collaboration at Vinnova.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate Europe's innovation system and create opportunities for actors in multiple countries to contribute with groundbreaking technologies. Pooling resources and expertise across national borders gives Europe a better chance to address security challenges and take the lead in future technologies.

The joint challenge is open to Swedish and European actors who want to participate in the development of solutions that strengthen civil defense. The goal is to create innovation that makes a real difference – for Sweden and for Europe.
