EU initiative for climate-neutral cities

Through the Climate Neutral and Smart Cities mission, 100 European cities will be supported, promoted and demonstrated during their transition to climate neutrality by 2030. The cities that take on the mission must sign a climate city contract.

The aim is also for these cities to be experimental and innovation hubs for all cities in Europe to become climate neutral by 2050.

The initiative provides an opportunity for the EU, Member States, regional and local authorities, the private sector and citizens to create a new and innovative partnership that can pave the way for global climate change.

The investment is linked to the Swedish work on climate contracts for cities, in which Vinnova is involved through the strategic innovation program Viable Cities.

Cities wishing to participate can register their interest until 31 January.
