Important results from the project

EMPIR has regularly undergone evaluation/impact analysis by the EU Commission in cooperation with EURAMET. The results are based on several KPIs as well as survey responses from ministries, authorities and end users. The programme as a whole and the included projects consistently receive high or very high scores from all authorities. The conclusions are that EMPIR has led to both higher efficiency, quality, visibility and direct utilisation of the National Metrology Institutes.

Expected long term effects

The task of the NMI is to be able to offer relevant services for industry, society and universitites. Through the project that the Swedish NMIs have participated in under EMPIR, we are in relevant parts prepared for the needs that are expected to arise within the next years. Programme and project have led to strengthened capabilities in, among other things, digitalisation, machine learning, AI, quantum technologies, measurement technology for support of challenges identified by the UN/EU.

Approach and implementation

The Article 185 EMPIR programme, European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research, initiated by EURAMET and the European Commission, started in 2014 with its first calls for proposals. The number of applications submitted follows the national financial framework that Sweden, through a joint decision by the ministry, Vinnova and RISE, has committed to. When a project is completed, funding will always be distributed so that the Commission accounts for approximately 35%.
