Important results from the project
We have created a fully functional nonwoven pressure sensor matrix prototype using only carbon and cellulose materials, no metallic materials is used. The pressure sensor matrix is comfortable and sensitive and is suitable for health care and car compartment, and other environments that requires flexible pressure sensors. The sensor matrix is low cost, bio based, and easy to recycle, making it a truly unique candidate for a whole array of novel applications.
Expected long term effects
1. We have manufacured a pressure sensor matrix using carbon:cellulose nonwoven material, which can be used for e.g., health care sector. 2.We have tested to make graphene:celllosue composite nonwoven sensor. 3.We have successfully carbonized cellulose fiber and could achieve a conductivity of 108.9 S/cm. The high conductivity makes it possible to be used a conducting lead. 4.We have made a preliminary mapping out for value chain from material to product.
Approach and implementation
In this hypothesis 1 project, RISE did laboratory-scale production of functionalized carbon cellulose nonwoven and carbon fibers, electrical characterization and integration. Cellcomb provided expertise in conversion process flow design and pure nonwoven cellulose sheets and other relevant material. Graphene producer 2D fab supplied the suitable graphene for laboratory testing. The project was led by RISE.
