Important results from the project

The project shows that games can make complex issues engaging and accessible. Ecolibrium is a board game that sparks curiosity, opens new perspectives, and invites dialogue on the role of forests in the future. It highlights the links between everyday choices and system change, creating an active story where the player drives the development. It was tested in workshops and has sparked interest from researchers, advisors, and educators.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, we see potential for Ecolibrium to contribute to greater system understanding, shifts in norms, and behavior change. The game can be scaled and adapted to different target groups and future scenarios, serving as a tool for education, research communication, and public dialogue. We also plan to further develop the game to reach a wider audience. With the right partners, it can support collaboration among forest-related actors and increase public understanding of forests.

Approach and implementation

The project began with an expert workshop and desktop research. The work was carried out iteratively, combining development with research, testing, and rule adjustments. The graphic design was developed in parallel. The development team collaborated closely with the researchers and held weekly check-ins. A second expert workshop was held later, and the game was tested with internal and external participants. The final event, where participants tested the game, was hosted at Skogforsk.
