Important results from the project

The aim of the study was to investigate the potential for coordinated vehicle use in Region Värmland by studying business trips and their potential to shift from being carried out by rental car to more sustainable solutions. The results show that approximately 30–50% of analyzed trips could be replaced by public transport or shared mobility. The study shows that the transition is not only a technical issue but also requires organizational coordination, behavioral change and strategic management.

Expected long term effects

The study investigates the potential to coordinate and optimize Region Värmlands´s vehicle fleet as a step towards contributing to a more long-term transport-efficient society. The study identifies both technical and organizational prerequisites for change. Important areas for further work are the development of integrated system support and access to better data. In addition, increased knowledge of traveler needs is required through further analysis of needs and travel purposes.

Approach and implementation

The implementation of the feasibility study was structured into four parts: knowledge overview, current analysis of travel patterns, development of a concept idea and gender equality analysis. Interviews with staff, analyses of completed business trips and simple cost comparisons between rental cars, mobility services and on-demand services have been carried out.
