Project duration June 2025 - June 2027
Status Ongoing
Venture Impact Innovation Net Zero industry - Program-specific efforts

Purpose and goal

The ReGraph2 project aims to validate and scale up the use of recycled graphite from spent batteries in four high-impact industrial applications: battery anodes, flow plates, graphene, and fire-safe multifunctional fibre reinforced polymer composites. By tailoring morphology and purification levels to each use case, the project will enhance resource efficiency, reduce carbon footprint, increase circularity, and strengthen Sweden´s and Europe´s critical raw material resilience.

Expected effects and result

The ReGraph2 project will deliver application-specific recycled graphite materials, validated prototypes, and sustainability assessment for the developed solutions. Expected impacts include reduced CO2 emissions and import dependency, enhanced circularity, strengthened value chain resilience, and new circular business models. The project will reinforce Swedish innovation and contribute to the goals of the EU´s Critical Raw Materials Act, green transition and Net Zero Industry Act.

Planned approach and implementation

A cross-sector consortium of 10 Swedish and international partners will execute the ReGraph2 project. Four use cases will be developed through demand-driven purification, material design, prototyping, and validation. Building on the success of Stage 1, the implementation includes technical validation, environmental and cost assessment, and life cycle analysis of high-impact applications of recycled graphite, as well as active dissemination of results and close industry collaboration.
