Call Impact Innovation: Increased resource efficiency and resilience, stage 1

Important results from the project

The project has strengthened sawmills´ research connections and highlighted the need to develop maintenance in wood manufacturing. Through surveys, interviews, data analysis and workshops, a conceptual model and a roadmap were developed for a human-centered, robust and dynamic maintenance work. The results show the need for increased collaboration in the value network, potential for reduced climate footprint through dynamic maintenance and strengthened competitiveness for wood manufacturing.

Expected long term effects

Dissemination of lessons for a radical leap in innovation with a human-centered perspective in Swedish industry. Resilient and resource-efficient maintenance inspires and makes a difference beyond the value network. Increased sustainable resource use in the wood processing industry through the implementation of dynamic maintenance work. Increased global export capacity and reduced import needs for the Swedish forest industry through competitive production with reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Approach and implementation

Execution: 1. State-of-the-art analysis 2. Process mapping of production and maintenance (observation study) 3. Qualitative data collection and analysis (21 interviews and 2 workshops) 4. Quantitative data collection (operation and maintenance data) and analysis 5. Idea concept generation with validation and identification of opportunities and obstacles 6. Development of a roadmap and concretization in the form of planning for stage 2. The schedule was followed and the collaboration worked well.
