Important results from the project
Five research papers were published in various international conferences and journals on design and aeronautical engineering. A licentiate thesis was defended at Linköping University.
The project focused on how product development and design can enable efficient design of aircraft thermal management at the concept stage. By combining these two different areas of research, the right design and modeling and simulation strategy can be applied for the development of aircraft thermal systems.
Expected long term effects
The design and product development strategy adopted in this project has already created new approaches to aircraft design in energy management at Saab. The strategy used in this project, to approach aircraft energy management through product development is being applied internally at Saab Aeronautics within their projects. It can be used for future clean sheet design studies and upgrading of existing aircraft platforms with new power supply systems.
Approach and implementation
Papers 1 and 2 focused on understanding the aircraft thermal management design and evaluation challenges at Saab.
Paper 3 focused on modeling and simulation strategy development to support thermal management design.
Paper 4 focused on understanding the thermal management design process at Saab.
Paper 5 focused on thermal management design knowledge and the interweaving of AI support in the design process at Saab.
