Important results from the project
1) The project partners have developed graphene based IR detectors integrated on photonic waveguides. 2) The project partners have shared knowledge throughout the project through theory and design discussions, presentations and discussions of results, writing of an application to FlagERA Graphene for funding of follow-up, and through three patent applications for waveguide-integrated detectors. 3) The commercial potential has been evaluated through cost analysis of the manufacturing process developed and comparison with competition.
Expected long term effects
We have developed graphene-based integrated on photonic waveguides. Through our work within the project we have been able to secure follow-up financing through an application to FlagERA Graphene, with two new international partners. As a result, we have already been able to expand our network within the international graphene research community.
Approach and implementation
The project consisted of three work packages: WP1: "Design and fabrication of demonstrator" and WP2: "Characterization of Demonstrator", and WP3: "Knowledge transfer". WP1 and WP2 were conducted with joint design meeting, prototype manufacturing in the KTH clean-room, and evaluation in the KTH lab. WP3 was conducted mostly through discussions on the specification of requirements for IR detectors for gas sensor chips. These results were then indicative of the design of the prototype and formed the core of our follow-up application to the FlagERA graphene. This approach worked well.
