Call Cirkularitet FFI – spring 2026

Purpose and goal

Explore the possibility of reusing composite sandwich panels from Podcomp with core material from DIAB, currently treated as production waste, into new components for electric vehicles from Luvly and Clean Motion. The panels will be transformed into structural parts and storage units. The project creates a cross-industry circular material loop among Swedish companies, demonstrating a scalable, high-quality reuse path for composites in modern mobility and sustainable manufacturing.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to demonstrate scalable reuse of composite waste in vehicles through validated prototypes, reducing waste by at least 50 % and virgin material by at least 30 %, and lowering climate impact (20 – 35%). It provides new material models, design and circularity methods, and an established industrial value chain that strengthens competitiveness and enables future deployment.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in six work packages from requirements and circular design to simulation, manufacturing and testing of demonstrators, and sustainability and cost analysis. The work integrates material characterisation, FE modeling and prototype development. Components are designed for disassembly and reuse, manufactured at relevant scales, tested experimentally and evaluated with LCA/LCC. Close collaboration throughout the value chain ensures verification and implementation.
