Purpose and goal

Water Management in Crisis and War (ViKK) aims to strengthen Sweden´s ability to secure water supplies during long-term and extensive crises. Experiences from, among others, the war in Ukraine show how vulnerable society becomes when water resources are threatened or interrupted, and how crucial alternative systems, backup solutions and increased preparedness are.

Expected effects and result

The project will strengthen Sweden´s ability to manage water safely, both in everyday life and in times of crisis. In the event of a shortage of drinking water, other water can be used for activities that do not require drinking water quality.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will use a combination of, among other things, technical innovations, alternative strategies and new forms of collaboration. Stress tests will also be carried out. Through the stress test, we will simulate complex crisis scenarios where several events occur simultaneously and put pressure on the water supply system. By staging these situations, both technical systems and the collaboration between the actors are tested and hidden weaknesses can be identified.
