Purpose and goal
WAAMLABZ is changing the way high-speed propellers are designed and produced. The goal of the project is to develop a WAAM recipe for a full-scale propeller in one of the world´s most advanced superalloys through additive manufacturing, reducing material loss by 80-90% and significantly improving strength. The propeller is intended for high-speed boats in defense, coast guard, police, maritime rescue and racing where a propeller is designated for extreme loads.
Expected effects and result
A field-tested and market-introduced WAAM propeller in alloy 718 with ≥20% higher fatigue strength and ≥5% better efficiency vs. reference.
Planned approach and implementation
Develop and validate optimized process parameters for WAAM manufacturing of high-speed propellers based on a key partner’s interceptor boat (>60 knots) as a reference case. Validate the IP-based business model underlying the commercialization of WAAM-manufactured propeller recipes. Define target markets, positioning, sales channels, marketing plan and key partnerships
