Important results from the project

The project is to support the validation of innovative ideas. Key indicators on results show that the program is very effective and many impact targets have been achieved, e.g. increased interest from commercial actors (established industry), better networks for commercialization through recruitment in teams. Better networks have also been created by incubating a large number of projects. Companies are created in over 50% of all projects. Conditions for investment are also deemed to have increased, especially with regard to private financing.

Expected long term effects

Data on results/effects: - In 53% of projects, companies have been formed (217) - 102 companies have brought in private investors (SEK 2 billion) - 113 projects have received > SEK 400 million in public funding - A total of 2.4 billion in commercial financing yields >40 times the money invested in VFT - In about 25% of projects customer collaborations have been made possible - Patent applications in 91 projects. - Projects with female idea owners has increased to > 40% - 20% of projects entered incubators or accelerators - In 14% of projects, teams are supplemented with external entrepreneurs

Approach and implementation

The project has been performed as an integral part of the innovation support process at KTH Innovation. There is a separate evaluation process and associated support processes for the use and follow-up of funding. VFT financing is also integrated with our overall process and methodology for innovation development - KTH Innovation Readiness Level®. This model is based on gradually measuring, verifying and increasing maturity in various areas and fits well with the validation that is the focus of VFT.
