Value chain graphene

Coordinator 2D fab AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 550 375
Project duration October 2020 - December 2021
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA
Call PiiA: Digitalization of industrial value chains, spring 2020

Purpose and goal

The purpose of this feasibility study was to investigate the possibilities of building a digital value chain together with suppliers of raw materials and machine equipment, customers and end users. We got a good response. An important step was to evaluate the possibilities of building AI support into the production process, based on Raman measurements. Some objectives in mapping the potential method were met. However, it was not possible to evaluate the algorithms that were planned, due to the fact that we did not have access to data from a research group in Brazil due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Expected results and effects

The next step is to build on the project´s conclusions and build a value chain for the production of the graphene with a digitized process, together with suppliers and customers who are interested. We believe that it is possible to create a production process supported by Raman measurements even if it is complicated. We plan to continue the work next year because it is important for us to optimize the process and be at the forefront of new technology and AI. In parallel with this, we will examine other measurement techniques that may come into question.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consisted of several parts with two parties, 2D fab AB and Stiftelsen Chalmers Industriteknik, and has worked well. We investigated the possibilities of a value chain for the production of graphene with some suppliers and customers. All of these are interested. However, difficulties arose in collaborating with a research and business group in Brazil, mostly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This caused problems for the algorithm development which was dependent on this group´s data. Work package 3 changed direction to handle the situation.
