Important results from the project
This project develops a unique logistics system for heavy transports that will stimulate a transport system for all types of heavy transports. The technology is demonstrated to evaluate both technical and societal aspects in a global and local perspective. The project will contribute with new knowledge within the area. Several synergy effects and new disruptive transport solutions is realized by a combination of the technology areas automation, electromobility and connectivity/ digital infrastructure.
Expected long term effects
The project has contributed a wide range of results and lessons learned about everything from how to adapt infrastructure for autonomous vehicles to methods around safety work. A number of technical concepts have also been developed which are largely applicable in other autonomous applications for ongoing and future projects. Lessons have also been learned around suitable vehicle concepts for an L4 application. Lessons have also been learned about concepts for installing sensors. The technology has been developed and partially demonstrated with safety drivers.
Approach and implementation
The project was divided into horizontal and vertical work packages. The horizontal work packages dealt with overall infrastructure issues, comparative LCA-based system analysis, and a knowledgebuilding work package on charging technology and charging infrastructure. The vertical work packages included research activities and activities that were directly enabling the demonstration of the transportation system. The vertical work packages were divided into Demonstration, Research and Development, and Infrastructure.
