Important results from the project
The project aimed to explore the potential for more sustainable and healthy food environments in municipal swimming pools. The findings are presented in a report that outlines various challenges and opportunities, as well as providing recommendations. The overarching conclusion is that fostering sustainable food choices is not primarily a matter of individual responsibility; instead, structural changes are necessary to shift the deeply ingrained norms within this food environment.

The mapping constitutes a valuable foundation for future initiatives, synthesizing the challenges and opportunities involved in creating sustainable food environments in municipal swimming pools. Furthermore, the conclusions have been shaped into concrete recommendations aimed at driving meaningful change. These are intended for use by national decision-makers, municipalities, cafe owners, and food producers - to develop food environments that actively contribute to health and sustainability.
Approach and implementation
Using interviews, environmental scanning, field visits, citizen dialogue, and a field experiment, the project mapped conditions for creating more sustainable food environments in municipal swimming pools. Using these diverse methods ensured that the findings reinforced one another. The project was led by WWF Sweden, with BL Innovation handling the field execution. While initially aiming to add another test environment, the project instead expanded its mapping scope.
