Important results from the project
The project developed a comprehensive knowledge base on children´s journeys through data from almost 800 children. The planned milestones were implemented: knowledge base, target scenario, action plan as well as learning packages and knowledge dissemination. The project resulted in a guide for other municipalities, recommendations and a scientific publication. The work also showed the need for increased collaboration between administrations in order to strengthen children´s sustainable mobility.
Expected long term effects
The project´s knowledge base can be used in future traffic planning, urban development and public transport. The project has initiated new necessary dialogues for continued work within the organisation: workshops, handover meetings and individual recommendations. The completed milestones provide a basis for continued work and can also be used by other municipalities. In the long term, the project can contribute to reduced emissions, better public health and increased independence for children.
Approach and implementation
The project stages were data collection, analysis, dialogue with children and development of action proposals. All activities and project partners were correct and necessary to build a strong and reliable basis. Activities followed the schedule. Some measures could be tested, but fewer than planned because several proposals required an unusual collaboration between different administrations. This became an important lesson and influenced both implementation and final recommendations.
