Project duration December 2012 - July 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aimed at developing new concepts for increasing the quality of the life and living of the elderly, by using lead users both within and outside the direct target group. The project carried out two pilot studies focusing on light and dementia as well as home-like environment. The knowledge that was developed during the two pilot studies was later on translated into a business case for developing elderly care facilities.

Results and expected effects

One result of the project was that we found out that there are advantages in considering the lighting already in the planning stages when designing housing for elderly. This way you can utilize the natural light extensively. An expected effect of the project is that the participating municipalities will make more specific orders to their architects, to get optimal conditions for providing a stimulating and good living for elderly.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented according to Hippel´s manual. The project team included a facilitator, lead users, the municipalities and two students who completed their degree projects in lighting design around the pilot cases. As the project moved into the phase of developing the business case, the team was changed to involve business development and a professional architect.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
