Purpose and goal

The City of Malmö has in collaboration with Malmö University, MEDEA and other stake-holders investigated the pre-conditions for establishing and developing a testbed. Knowledge and pre-conditions to establish a testbed have been gained. A structure for the testbed with possible methods, processes and functions have been identified. A number of innovations for elderly have generated. Preparations for a project application to establish and develop a testbed for the elderly care have been made. The application with be based on the knowledge and the ideas developed in the pre-study.

Results and expected effects

The pre-conditions for establishing a testbed for the elderly are good. The future testbed will initially focus on three innovation areas safety and security, social interaction and housing. Innovation solutions for elderly have been generated during the pre-study. The structure of the testbed will provide opportunities to develop, test and implement innovative ideas for organizational solutions, products, services, safety and security strengthening solutions. A project application for establishing a testbed has been prepared during the pre-study.

Approach and implementation

The activities in the pre-study have been dialogue meetings, focus groups and workshops in collaboration with stake-holders. The activities have also aimed to anchor the establishment and development of a testbed. Information and views on the user´s needs have been obtained. A workshop was organized to discuss how innovation can create conditions for a stimulating and safe environment for the elderly. The workshop had participants from the academia, the private and public sector, and the civil society. Creative solutions for the elderly and a number of new networks were formed.
