Purpose and goal

Project purpose and objective: To develop an initial national framework, based on a consolidated knowledge base, that provides recommendations and strategic guidance for the development and scaling of autonomous public transport.

Expected effects and result

The feasibility study creates the conditions for extensive testing and faster introduction of autonomous public transport. It strengthens Sweden´s position ahead of European type approval of automated vehicles in 2027 and shows how the solution can increase accessibility, efficiency and competitiveness at lower cost. Overall, it contributes to challenges regarding efficiency, equality and accessibility, resilience and the need for regulations, standardization and new business models.

Planned approach and implementation

Five work packages and four milestones. AP 1: Problem understanding - mapping of pilots. AP 2: Regulations, permits, insurance and agreements. AP 3: Role in the system - System benefit and system perspective. AP 4: Framework and full-scale project proposal. AP 5: Communication and dissemination.
