Important results from the project
The project aimed to see how the cultivation of legumes in Sweden for human consumption could increase through a clearly defined objective with targeted support and policy instruments. The project was based on how the support system looks in Sweden compared to other EU markets. Different support levels were theoretically evaluated using the SASM model and supplemented with a survey among primary producers with a wide national distribution and distribution in farm size.
Expected long term effects
The project contributes to a greater understanding of the needs for increasing the cultivation of legumes in Sweden. The needs varied depending on the size of the farm, generally among those who do not cultivate today their is a lack of knowledge. Financial support in the form of hectare support showed to be the most attractive support for starting to grow legumes, regardless of farm size. Support for increased cultivation needs to be combined with efforts to create a stable demand.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out through mapping, needs dialogues, data collection, calculation models and anchoring through discussions with various actors. The activities complemented each other well. The project developed as planned. The compilation of the results took a little longer than planned. The collaboration worked very well with good commitment from consultants and from the reference group.
