Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA

Purpose and goal

The project´s aim has been to investigate and identify existing and innovative ICT technologies and approaches to increase direct value creation in maintenance of the new power plant at Mälarenergi. Project work-study and interviews with maintenance technicians confirmed already known challenges and problems, but also identified new challenges and deepened our understanding of the already known problems. Our analysis led to the technical and organizational proposals that could streamline maintenance.

Results and expected effects

The project resulted in many different approaches for an easier way to get better information to maintenance technicians. This partly led to two smaller demonstrators. All results are summarized in a report with results from all work packages. The project succeeded in forming new collaboration between participants and also with new industries /companies. The results of the project are used to form new collaboration in the field of industry maintenance through an upcoming PiiA-proposals.

Approach and implementation

The project conducted a work study of maintenance technicians in electricity and instruments at Mälarenergi for identifying challenges. Parallel developed example of how modern ICT can support technicians. The project results were presented in events PiiAsummit and SICS Open House. The project had three workshops which presented the results of different work packages and inspiring talks about better maintenance techniques. Furthermore, the results from the project fed back to all partners.
