Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Metallic material

Purpose and goal

In the present project an industry-oriented computational tool for predicting the behavior of metallic materials under complex deformation conditions has been developed for the Swedish steel companies in order to reduce their efforts of developing and improving metallic material. A modern and powerful software DEFMOD II is delivered to the participating companies by using popular programming language Python. It is expected also to help the engineers to understand the behavior of material and improve the properties of materials through the use of the advanced modeling tool.

Expected results and effects

The DEFMOD II software is available both as executable program and source code for the participating companies. The behavior of the investigated new material in the specified deformation conditions could be predicted and analyzed by means of the DEFMOD II software. It would be reasonable to expect not only the improved results about the impact of DEFMOD on outcomes, but also the reduced time to their development and delivery. An agreement regarding ownership and user rights will maximize the benefit to the participating organizations.

Planned approach and implementation

The project includes four work packages: 1) Software development; 2) Material Data Development; 3) Testing and demonstration; 4) Documentation and dissemination. The work package on software development focuses on graphic user interface and selected physically-based flow stress models. The user experience improvements were made via the conversation between the developer and the users and common workshop, resulting a user-friendly and easy-to-use program. Using open programming languages allows the developer and advanced user to develop the code together.
