Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project has, in a pilot study, demonstrated the possibility of collecting and analyzing data in traffic in India, to develop solutions for safe and efficient bus transport of people in India, in a scalable and cost-effective way. This has resulted in an initial understanding of a scalable and reusable data collection method, for the collection and analysis of driving data from drivers and vehicles, in buses, in real traffic in India.

Expected long term effects

The project has demonstrated the potential to improve existing and new solutions for safe and efficient bus transportation of people in India, in a scalable and cost-effective way. This is a first step in understanding how Indian intercity public transport, which operates on a regular basis between Indian cities, can be made safer and more efficient. In the project, we have built a demo version of a data logger that has been mounted in a bus in scheduled traffic, to collect and analyze driving data from drivers and vehicles.

Approach and implementation

In the first phase, methods of data collection have been defined, and a first installation of data loggers, in a bus in India, has been designed. During this phase, the first data signals have been stored in a common data server, for quality analysis and a simpler first analysis of the research questions. The results from this pilot project will be used for the larger data collection next, larger data collection projects, when more research questions will be analyzed. in
