Important results from the project
SCAPIS is a Swedish population-based cohort for the study of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases that depends on advanced analysis of collected image data. The goal with the project "SCAPIS AI-plattform" has been to establish a/ a technology platform for data sharing and advanced image analysis, and b/ the legal aspects that enable large scale data sharing for sensitive personal data. We also wanted to carry out several image analysis tasks within the project.
Expected long term effects
We have established a procedure for how researchers can apply for image data from the SCAPIS project. This procedure has a well-defined legal support. Retrieved image data will be sent directly to the researchers or to AIDAs data hub at Linköping University. AIDA will also give researchers access to powerful computing capacity. The project will enable future research on image material in SCAPIS, which in the long run will provide a lot of new knowledge and the establishment of new image analysis tools in healthcare.
Approach and implementation
A close collaboration has been initiated between the SCAPIS organization at GU and the AIDAS organization at LiU, which has enabled the establishment of common processes and technical solutions. Further, five different image analysis projects have been carried out within the project, all of which have resulted in publishable new methods for image analysis. We have also communicated these new procedures via SCAPIS and AIDAs communication channels, and we will launch these for Swedish researchers in the spring of 2023.
