Purpose and goal

The project has lead to development of a method enabling exploration of System-of-systems and tradespace exploration of changes in requirements or influence of new systems. By that providing a mean to support decision support within SoS Engineering and System design. This has been demonstrated in a search and rescue use case. The method also demonstrate the possibilities to automatically generate different SoS solutions linked to executable simulations model at different level, enabling an larger exploration of different solutions providing resilient systems solutions.

Expected results and effects

A systematic method for populating "tradespace" with qualitative and quantitative data, based on ontologies and simulation models at different levels, System-of-systems, system and sub-systems has been developed, This enables to define, explore and simulate SoS, and perform what-if scenarios as decision support in product development. This has been documented in a number of publications presented at international conferences and journals. Parts of the outcome will be applied to Saab´s internal projects. The project has also resulted in new research applications.

Planned approach and implementation

The project work has been performed as expected from an overall point of view. The COVID pandemic has affected the project by reducing the live interaction with other, replaced by digital workshop, reducing the chance of proficient feedback. It also affected a planned guest researcher at Georgia Tech. Despite the external factors the project managed to collaborate with other research project creating valuable spillover effects Among one was a common used cased based on search and rescue and the possibilities offer by ontology as formalism.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
