Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme Electronic Components and Systems:

Purpose and goal

We have developed within the project a prototype of a new platform for future industrial radio control. The platform is modular, scalable, producible and integrates both sensors and control of industrial processes, and is connected to the customer´s computer domain or a Åkerström cloud. A foundation for new business models has been developed within the project based on customer requirements and new opportunities that came with the functionality of the platform. A complete prototype system has been tested in Boliden Rönnskär and a scaled-down variant at Dalarna University.

Expected results and effects

The result of the project will mean that new functionalities such as IoT and cloud services will be able to be introduced in the industrial processes that include Åkerström´s radio control. The platform and its backend solution for analysis of operational data will provide the industry with new tools for efficiency and security through the opportunity to, among other things, introduce operator authentication and predictive maintenance to prevent costly downtime. Furthermore, Åkerströms can introduce new business models with changed customer agreements and payment models.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has mainly followed the plan regarding design and implementation. During the course of the project, we have further developed our project model for safety-critical machine control systems through the introduction of agile development methods. In the preliminary study, we underestimated the scope of some of the main activities, but still managed to achieve a good results within the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
