Purpose and goal
The project aims to strengthen Sweden´s ability to provide resilient material and component supply for critical facilities within civil and military defense. The overall goal of the project is to develop, test, evaluate and document a methodology for how the work with resilient material production of strategic metals and alloys can be conducted, for critical defense-related facilities.
Expected effects and result
A generalizable methodology for resilient material production will be developed and tested in two pilot studies. The methodology will be applicable in future research for analysis of critical materials and components for increased resilience. For industry, the results will form the basis for transition plans to more resilient manufacturing routes to be applied in geopolitically challenging situations as well as plans for the production of materials outside the regular product portfolio.
Planned approach and implementation
A mapping of current and future material needs (incl. required material properties) for critical civil and military defense facilities will be developed. Existing and alternative materials and production routes will then be mapped and tested in two pilot studies, one focused on additive manufacturing and one on thermal spraying. The methodology will be documented and evaluated.
