Purpose and goal

The aim of Project See by Iris Hadar, Social Venture Network, Leap for Life at Halmstad University, and RISE is to facilitate greater accessibility to transportation for people who rely on sign language to communicate. Achieving this will be done through developing a novel prototype device that leverages AI and provides real-time sign language to speech and speech to text functionality. Together with stakeholders the consortium will investigate user needs.

Expected effects and result

The goal is to first identify and map existing needs through a needs assessment and, based on these insights, develop a functional proof-of-concept. This will lay the groundwork for a larger project that advances the initial idea based on the results of the pre-study. The pre-study will assess feasibility and outline a roadmap for developing solutions that improve accessibility to transportation for deaf people.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will investigate the needs of the user group more clearly through a literature review by Leap for Life at Halmstad University. At the same time Oderiye Labs and RISE will investigate the software and hardware needed for the proof-of-concept. A clear requirement specification for the prototype is developed, and an iterative process will begin for a functional system. Specific use cases will be defined during the literature review and through discussions with needs owner groups.
