Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The interim report found that the EN and ISO standards do not meet the industry requirements for radio modules. This was identified as the major obstacle for smaller actors to enter the market. A decision was made to make a simulation model that can be used to get past this obstacle and minimize cost, development time and risk.

Expected long term effects

It has been shown that it is possible to predict the actual EM field strengths that an ESA will be subjected to after it is installed on the host. These levels in most cases will be much less demanding than the current levels demanded by both the standards and the host manufacturers. Using simulation tools will show what will be the realistic levels to meet for the required functional quality for the ESA in the real use environment when subjected to expected EM interference. This will save time and cost and avoid waste when developing ESAs for the host environments targeted for them.

Approach and implementation

It was decided to generate planar fields of various strengths using broadband antennas such as bi-conical and log-periodic with a bow-tie element to subject the ESA to a radiated interfering field. The simulation results clearly confirm the outcome observed in real measurements. The results obtained so far confirm our expectations: the performance limits obtained in a test set up specified by the standards are quite different from what can be expected in the intended use environment.
