Purpose and goal
Production angels have supported startups that want to scale up a physical product from prototype to production and have increased knowledge about industrialization at both innovation companies and manufacturers. The program has been developed and digitalized and now consists of 5 modules, with the addition of sustainability and circularity as a component in the workshop series. Participating startups have been offered continued coaching and have been interviewed for further knowledge development of challenges linked to industrialization, which has resulted in a study.
Expected results and effects
By integrating support for industrialization, Production Angels has contributed to strengthening the Swedish innovation system so more innovation companies will develop towards production. Production angels have continued to coach startups with a focus on designing a production strategy that supports decisions such as buying / selling, production location, choice of suppliers and competence development. It has contributed to increased value of Swedish product innovations, created new customer relationships for Swedish manufacturers and increased benefits for Sweden.
Planned approach and implementation
The program has been run by KTH and Södertälje Science Park. The operational project approach with 3 work packages has been followed and worked, with some changes due to the pandemic. The original plan was to prepare and implement a pilot of the program elsewhere, but it was changed and contributed to the digitization of the program. Today it consists of 5 modules that will be tested in the spring of 2021. Evaluation and interviews with participants in Production Angels have resulted in a study that shows a great need for investments in industrialization in the Swedish innovation system.
