Important results from the project

The project originally aimed to identify a suitable location for establishing high-purity silicon production in Sweden. This work was substantially completed: 30+ municipalities were contacted, seven sites visited, and a preferred location identified for future development. As market and technical realities shifted, focus expanded to validating our HPR technology for tungsten and titanium, culminating in two LOIs and successful customer testing.

Expected long term effects

GREEN14´s HPR technology has the potential to significantly reduce emissions from advanced materials production (up to 95%), contributing to a more sustainable European supply chain. The project has laid the groundwork for commercial scale-up in tungsten and titanium, with site selection work supporting future Swedish industrial establishment. Long-term, the technology can strengthen Europe´s strategic independence in critical materials while creating high-quality industrial jobs in Sweden.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented in three stages by GREEN14 as sole coordinator. Early stages focused on site selection for a Swedish silicon production facility, engaging site selection consultants and evaluating 30+ municipalities. Later stages pivoted to technical validation of HPR technology for tungsten and titanium, including lab trials at an equipment supplier and customer testing. Internal staff covered research and commercial development throughout, supported by external consultants.
