Purpose and goal

The challenge to stimulate children´s willingness to read physical books is huge. Reading among adults and children is in decline. With AR, imitera AB creates motivational content for children´s books series, using our own developed app, which merges the virtual with the physical reading experience. In a 3D-view from the images in a book, the child can pick up virtual objects and play with them. Imitera wants to create a scaleable platform to increase the child´s interest in reading. With financing we have developed a first version of the AR-app for "Space Journey", by Christer Fuglesang.

Expected results and effects

We have created all the virtual content for the book Space Journey and have connected it with the flow of the text. Some characters and objects can be picked out of a page and into another (see YouTube-clip in URL below). As the premiere of the movie "Space Journey", which the app will launch in conjunction with, has been pushed forward, so also will our app launch be pushed forward somewhat. The project will also cost a bit more than calculated, but this is due to other reasons than original budget for the funding, as additional functions have been added during the course of the project.

Planned approach and implementation

The projekt has been led with daily meetings to reach milestones. We have based our 3D-views on paintings and text in the book, to create an extended, collected and functional experience for the user. Project lead has had a close collaboration with 3D-modellers and programmers, ensured high quality and function. It has been a creative process, which has been highly rewarding for all participants. We are looking forward to a positive reception from the market, both in schools and from private customers, to move forward with development of the concept
