Important results from the project
In the project a number of welding geometries were analyzed with laser ultrasonics to determine welding quality. The goal of the project has been to technical verify the usability of the method in lab.
Expected long term effects
Especially for point welds the welded area/length could be estimated. The cycle time for the measurement was optimized to 1 second. Also on laser welds the method gave promising results. However more tests are needed to quantify the results.
Approach and implementation
The project was conducted with Volvo Cars as a partner. Volvo made the welded samples while Swerea KIMAB measured on the samples in their lab.
