Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to look at how over-the-top multimedia traffic affects network capacity on a Internet Service Provider level, and to explore the solutions available today. The goal was then to develop prototypes and guidelines on alternative solutions and work towards standardization of these .

Results and expected effects

The research done in the project, combined with publications and collaboration, have led to increased awareness of what is happening with over-the-top- multimedia traffic in operator networks. By presenting papers on events, disseminating scientific articles and standardisations work, the project has led to that knowledge on this research topic has been actively communicated to a larger audience. Since the project spans most of Europe, awareness has thus spread among countries in the EU.

Approach and implementation

Through traffic analysis and dissemination of the results of several WP´s, both industry and research participants gained access to important data on how common phenomenon as over-the-top multi-media affects network traffic. This data has been used by the research institutions to produce various reports and papers which was written and published over the projects duration. Please see the list of publications on the project´s wiki for more information regarding these publications.
