Important results from the project

The purpose was to study workplace parking in densified cities. Main objective was gain knowledge about alternatives to traditional workplace parking, in order to develop policies and tools for planning and analysis. The project has developed new knowledge about parking and mobility services. We also developed advice aimed at employers, property owners and municipalities for mobility planning workplace areas. New policy instruments such as cash-out have been investigated, and existing ones such as Mobility Plans have been further developed.

Expected long term effects

The effects of the project results can be seen in work carried out by all project partners. Changed pricing of workplace parking, development of new payment models, and deepened collaboration on mobility in the case study areas are expected to have effects on mobility patterns to and from the case study areas. The diffusion of knowledge to more cities should further make it possible to put the results into use. Results concerning mobility services for work travel and commuting is planned to be put forward in a scientific publication, contributing to scientific knowledge.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out over three years using a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods. Methods used were focus groups, interviews, parking occupancy inventory, travel surveys and the collection of existing data on parking and traveling by assistance of project partners. One reflection is that quantifying changes and determining a causal effect between travel patterns and changes in parking (price and supply) is very difficult in dynamic environments such as Lindholmen, where there are a significant number of changes besides parking during the measurement period.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
