Multi Layer Waveguide technology for defence applications

Reference number
Coordinator Gapwaves AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 850 000
Project duration November 2025 - August 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Civil-military synergies
Call Acceleration of civil-military innovations by 2025

Purpose and goal

Gapwaves’ waveguide antenna technology delivers superior performance at high frequencies, starting around 30 GHz and above. Higher frequency systems have many applications in the defense sector. Many of these will be needed in larger volumes and in smaller form factors, and the cost of current implementations limits their use. The goal is to take Gapwaves´ current technology and adapt, environmentally test, and then apply it to defense applications.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to take Gapwaves current waveguide technology used in the automotive and telecom sectors and apply it to defense applications. This will enable smaller form factor systems in larger volumes where today the cost of current implementations limits their use. These smaller platforms could be drones, soldiers or smaller vehicles.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be implemented in a number of work packages with systems analysis, design, manufacturing and environmental verification. These work packages create customized building blocks and processes for identified defense applications and test these against environmental requirements. In addition, a work package is focused on business development.
