Important results from the project
The project has aimed to evolve and produce components and workflows, to empower producers and creative artists in their efforts to reach larger and novel audiences to a lower production cost - and to support evolving Swedish stage arts. Components can be scenographic artifacts, software, sensors, displays etc. for production, distribution, and consumption, and for use both on location and remotely, often superimposed on the existing infrastructure. The outcomes are a developed sensor system for music control, and descriptions how to work with mediated spaces within staged arts.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in a number of documented and thoroughly tested components for technical support of performing arts. These components will be made accessible for producers and actors alike, and are currently and forthcoming put in use in systems at teaching both at KTH as well as several of the performing arts´s schools, like the University collage of Opera and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic arts. These systems and principles are also expected to spread to, and be used by, theaters and other institutions for staged arts.
Approach and implementation
The most part of the project have been conducted at the KTH R1 Experimental Performance Space and Presence Lab, located in the decomissioned nuclear reactor hall at the Royal Institute of Technology, now a creative meeting space with the former activities and the character of the space as basis for new experiments and research. Here, the project group have developed and tested various technical components prior to use in actual productions with rehersals and performances.
