Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Construction materials like aggregates and dimensional stone and industrial minerals are of vital importance to the society and economy and for the quality of our daily life. Long term high demand for construction materials is expected due to planned investments in infrastructure, housing and new industrial projects. Minerals are also important process additives in other industrial sectors, e.g. the steel and paper industry.

Results and expected effects

The major driving forces for the research are found in an increasing importance of the sustainability. General challenges are stable raw material supply, improved competence, increased co-operation between the industry and academia and increased international co-operation to support research and industrial competitiveness. The Agenda gives the joint vision of the industry and academia up to 2030 and forms the base for research programs and long term research strategies.

Approach and implementation

The research company MinBaS AB, owned by the industrial organizations SBMI, MinFo and Stenforsk, in co-operation with research providers from Chalmers, CBI/SP, SLU, UmU, LU, KTH, down-streams users and agencies as Geological Survey of Sweden drafted the Agenda. The Agenda points to challenges facing the domestic aggregates, industrial minerals and dimensional stone industries and recommend research areas of strategic importance to meet these challenges.
