Reference number
Coordinator MARSBLADE AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 380 000
Project duration May 2012 - November 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The inline chassis design and material has been verified. Physiological and biomechanical verification is currently made in collaboration with Brock University, Ontario, Canada. The product has been successfully launched on the domestic market and is now launched internationally. Ice skate testing indicates that it performs better than the existing ice skates. A carbon fiber series is now developed to be used in games. A cross country ski binding is developed in collaboration with the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre and MIUN Sportstech and is tested with positive feedback.

Results and expected effects

The developing and verifying process has enabled a successful launch of the inline chassis as well as strengthened the product portfolio with the ice skate and ski binding. The company has received a lot of international interest from large distributors and established brands. The company has employed one person during the project and is expected to employ more staff in the near future. During the project the company has developed a foundation for a strong international brand. This project has also contributed to an improved collaboration between the university and the business sector.

Approach and implementation

The company has followed the project plan to large extent. The ice skate and ski binding still requires intensified development, testing and verification that will be performed during 2014. Experiences from the project indicates that the development processes has been longer than expected in the planning stage. This is partly due to unexpected changes in personell/competences and a slow and inefficient collaboration process with the universeties.
