MARS - Military Anticorrosive anti-Reflective Surfaces

Reference number
Coordinator Provexa Technology AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 980 000
Project duration November 2025 - August 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Civil-military synergies
Call Acceleration of civil-military innovations by 2025

Purpose and goal

The project aims to adapt and optimize Provexa Technologys electrophoretic polymer-ceramic paint systems for military needs within three applications: marine fittings, optical sights and heat sinks. The goal is to have validated that at least two of these applications meet defined requirements for corrosion protection, wear resistance and function, and thereby establish the technology within the Swedish defense industry.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in verified electrophoretic surface coatings with improved properties regarding durability, emissivity and reflection attenuation. The technology replaces costly and environmentally damaging processes such as PVD and anodizing. The effects will be increased cost-efficiency, lower climate impact and strengthened Swedish innovative capacity. The results are also expected to have civil applications and contribute to Provexa´s long-term growth.

Planned approach and implementation

The project runs over nine months and is implemented in four work packages: project management, technical development, testing and business development. The development is done iteratively through formulation, analysis and verification of coatings in collaboration with requirement setters (OnMar, AimPoint, Terasi). In parallel, a dual-use business strategy is developed within the framework of the accelerator program. The results are documented and validated in both laboratory and field tests.
