Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project was to move the analysis from the overall firm level to the project level, and thereby deepen knowledge about activities, routines and tools for open innovation, and how these tools work in different specific development projects.
Results and expected effects
Effects include increased and new knowledge about the problem area, that spreads to the academic community by means of a doctoral dissertation. Knowledge is also spread directly to companies through articles intended for an industrial audience. The project has also resulted in ideas for improved collaboration in practice, through interaction with participating companies where a productive exchange of ideas has taken place regarding questions and problems of mutual interest. This interest is manifested in e.g. the presentations by LKAB and Outotec used during the final workshop.
Approach and implementation
Within the frames of the project, a couple of key activities has taken place. These include data collection and the writing of a new project-based journal article about knowledge leakage in boundary-spanning development projects, seminars at participating companies, the writing of two articles for an industrial audience, knowledge spreading and exchange through the annual Promote workshop, as well as the completion of a doctoral dissertation on the topic, defended by David Rönnberg Sjödin in june 2013.
