Important results from the project
The objective has been to develop a unique tank truck for LNG and liquefied biogas for efficient and environmentally friendly transportation of gas fuel for vehicles to areas where a pipeline or distribution network is missing. The target can be regarded as fulfilled in that we now have a fully developed product and a complete prototype that is ready for field testing in cooperation with our main customer.
Expected long term effects
The product has met the majority of the requirements in the project specifications for function, weight, capacity and performance, as well as length and width. Only exception was total height which ended up about 100 mm higher than planned, which limits the selection of vehicles that can be used for transportation. This however will be addressed with a design change before future series production. One result of the project is that we have increased cooperation on product development with one of our clients.
Approach and implementation
Execution of the project has taken much longer than originally anticipated. Both we and our main partner (Cryo AB) made the incorrect assumption that we could use a simplified procedure for certification and third-party inspection of systems and components during the development phase. We were however forced to implement the same full procedure as for a finished commercial product available on the market. Cryo has also suffered a lack of resources for part of the project, which caused further delays.
