Purpose and goal
The project aims to establish a sustainable and economically viable recycling process for LFP batteries. By recycling lithium, phosphorus and iron and developing useful by-products, the project will strengthen Europe´s raw material supply and reduce waste streams. The goal is to validate the process on a pilot scale, ensure industrial quality of the products and develop a commercialization plan that makes the technology ready for industrial implementation in Sweden and Europe.
Expected effects and result
The project will deliver an integrated recycling process validated at pilot scale, with product samples of lithium, phosphoric acid and cement-like materials that meet industry requirements. The results will be documented in technical reports and a techno-economic analysis that demonstrates profitability and investment potential. The impacts will be strengthened raw material supply, reduced waste streams and new circular value chains that contribute to climate goals and sustainable industry.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is implemented in 5 work packages covering the entire chain from research to commercialization. KTH is responsible for process development and modeling, Greenavance runs pilot validation and technical coordination, while Ragn-Sells ensures business and market validation. The work includes product verification, techno-economic analysis and a commercialization plan. Close collaboration between the parties ensures the results are robust, industrially relevant, with long-term benefits.
