Project duration December 2012 - November 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to develop a new offer with the potential of increasing quality in elderly care based on technology from Axis, as well as further develop methods for lead user driven innovation. The goal was to create a prototype for testing in the spring of 2014. During the course of the project Axis has developed and are now planning testing of the prototype. Furthermore, the project has tested, taught, and gained experience in applying a number of tools for lead user driven innovation.

Results and expected effects

Axis has through the project been able to reflect around and further develop their methods for user driven innovation. The researchers´ competence and the lead user methodology has been spread within Axis and among the invited participants, and shaped the concept development. The project created a platform for discussion and reflection about the role of technology in care from a wider perspective. The prototype has a large potential of resulting in an attractive commercial offer contributing to increased quality of dementia care.

Approach and implementation

In parallel with the development work at Axis there has been a dialogue with lead users and three workshops have been conducted with experts and user within care and technology. From a first, broad workshop understanding of needs was deepened, solution ideas generated and focus narrowed down to monitoring of people with dementia living home alone. The project has given an increased understanding of managing user driven open innovation projects. Challenges were found in identifying and recruiting lead user and finding the right balance between problem definition and solution.
